Tournament Guidelines

Scholastic Division Guidelines:

https://caissachess.net/live/5618

1. Touch Move Rule:

  • If you touch a piece, you must move that same piece.
  • If your King is in check and you touch a piece that doesn’t help get rid of the check, it’s an illegal move.
  • Illegal moves result in giving your opponent 2 minutes of extra time.

2. Adjusting Pieces:

  • To adjust pieces, you must inform your opponent beforehand by saying “I adjust.”

3. Scoring:

  • Win: 1 point
  • Loss: 0 points
  • Draw: ½ point

4. Chess Clock:

  • No chess clock provided at the start.
  • If the game isn’t over after 60 minutes, a 10-minute timer will be set for both players.
  • If your clock runs out, you lose the game.

5. Castling:

  • Always touch the King first when castling.

6. Conduct During the Game:

  • No talking during game time (with parents, friends, etc.).
  • No snacks during playtime; water is allowed.
  • You can adjust pieces only if you’ve informed your opponent.
  • Raise your hand for any problems or questions, and the TD will assist.
  • Maintain silence during the game.
  • No arguments with the opponent.

7. Offer Draws:

  • You can ask your opponent for a draw. If they refuse, don’t insist.

8. Tournament Structure:

  • Rounds start at 9:30 AM, 10:30 AM, 11.30 am 1:00 PM, and 2:00PM
  • Games are 25 minutes each with 5 sec delay
  • Bye requests are allowed if you’re unavailable for a round, but you need to inform the TD beforehand.
  • If you get a bye, you automatically get 1 point for that round.
  • No elimination in this tournament.

9. Tournament Director Responsibilities:

  • The TD is not responsible for deciding whether your game is a checkmate, stalemate, or draw.
  • The TD is there to help with problems and disputes, but you are responsible for understanding and resolving your own game’s outcome.
  • Report results to the TD after your game.

10. Sportsmanship:

  • Be respectful to your opponent at all times.
  • After winning, acknowledge the game and wish your opponent good luck for future rounds.

11. Reporting Results:

  • Ensure your game results are recorded properly in the standings.
  • If you need to withdraw from the tournament, inform the TD.
