Kaavya is a 15-year-old Colorado high-school student entering 10th grade and a competitive US Chess player with a rating of approximately 1700. Through this youth-led community initiative, she hopes to encourage more girls to learn chess, improve their confidence, and enjoy playing the game.

We empower girls to believe in themselves, think confidently, and develop leadership skills through chess. By providing free learning opportunities and a supportive community, we help every girl feel welcome, capable, and inspired to succeed both on and off the chessboard.

Kaavya’s Girls in Chess Free Online Chess Workshop

Location: Online through Zoom
Cost: Free
Ages: Girls ages 7–12
Level: Beginner and early intermediate
Class Length: 60 minutes
Class Size: Limited to 12 students
No tournament experience is required.
The private Zoom link will be emailed to the registered parent or guardian before the class.
What Students Will Learn
During the workshop, Kaavya will introduce students to:
- Important chess rules
- Opening principles
- Check and checkmate
- Protecting the king
- Simple chess tactics
- Fun and interactive puzzles
- Good sportsmanship
- How to play with confidence
Students should have a chessboard available during the class when possible.
